Pong was released on November 29, 1972 by Atari who also developed the game. Pong is a coin-op cabinet simulation game.

Pong is a game for 2 players. Each player operates a “paddle” via an analog knob. The object is to bounce the “ball” back and forth. The ball bounce had multiple angles to make the play more challenging.

The game would keep score and who ever reach 21 first was the winner.

Pong quickly became a success and is the first commercially successful arcade video game machine.

The game has been copied repeatedly by many developers given how simple the game is. In 1972 the machine was made with TTL before the mass market CPU entered the market. Atari did this game the hard way.

Given the success of Pong, Atari went on to make many more cabinet games. Eventually, they released the Atari 2600 home gaming computer.

Pong was installed in pool halls beside pinball machines. It was also seen in bars and lounges.
