Shadow Warrior was released on May 13, 1997 by GT Interactive. The game was developed by 3D Realms. Shadow Warrior is a first person shooter.
Shadow Warrior is a first-person shooter similar to Duke Nukem 3D and using the same Build engine.
Players navigate the protagonist, Lo Wang, through three-dimensional environments or “levels”. Throughout levels are enemies that attack Lo Wang, which can be killed by the player using weapons such as a katana. Shadow Warrior also features puzzles that must be solved to progress in various levels.
The graphics a reminiscent of the old classic Doom etc. The gameplay however is quite different..
The use of a sticky bomb is an unusual feature. When the wildly popular Halo: Combat Evolved used it.
Shadow Warrior ia a very an ambitious game, containing many features not seen until later first-person shooter games. For example, the game features turrets and various vehicles (such as tanks) that the player can drive around freely in, climbable ladders, and multiple firing modes for various weapons.
The game also allows the player to wield dual pistols which gives the game more action compared to other rivals. The game is not quite a true free look seen more recent shooters however the game does an excellent job of making the best of the technology.
The main strength of Shadow Warrior is its gameplay. The levels are a tad redundant which is par for 1997.
