Twin Sector was released September 16, 2009 by Headup Games. The game was developed by DnS Development. Twin Sector is a first person shooter.
The story of Twin Sector takes place in a post-apocalyptic future where the remains of mankind have been put to artificial sleep in cryogenic chambers deep under the contaminated surface of earth — until the planet becomes habitable again.
You as the player must take the role of Ashley Simms, the protagonist of Twin Sector. Suddenly awakened by the station’s security A.I. system O.S.C.A.R., you face the imminent extinction of all other still sleeping survivors due to an unknown failure in the life support system.
According to O.S.C.A.R., you are the only person who was able to be woken and therefore the only individual capable of saving mankind. Within the next ten hours you will need to repair the broken main generator of the subterranean bunker system in order to reestablish the station’s functionality. But there are yet unknown forces trying to prevent you from succeeding at all costs!
The gameplay is unusual. The player has more capability to jump and climb over obstacles compared to most other action shooters. Telekinesis is reminiscent of Bioshock. The gameplay is different enough that its best to play this for several hours to acclimate to the abilities of the protagonist. This is due to much higher use of jumping, climbing and actions that are more like a Tomb Raider style game even though its a first person shooter.
The game is heavily scripted which is typical for puzzle style action games. Portal also has a puzzle aspect to it that comes to mind when playing Twin Sector. Failure with one of the puzzles may send you back more then you want, the game is a bit weak that way.
For a German indie game, the game actually pretty well done. But since texture variation is not present the gameplay is a tad monotonous. Overall the game is a surprisingly good idea but the implementation comes up a bit short. The overall graphics quality is excellent considering the game is DX9. The modeling of the protagonist is very well done.
