You need 3 DVDs and they will create a new recovery partition when you install a new hard disk or SSD.  Run Lenovo ThinkVantage System Update to automatically update drivers and utilities.

  • Download Lenovo Windows 7 SP1 x64 recovery disks.

The recovery disks are compatible with many Lenovo machines. This list is not exhaustive.

  • T400
  • T420
  • T500
  • X220
  • X300
  • X301

These are ISO images that must be installed from a DVD drive. A USB DVD drive will be needed for machines without an optical drive like the X220 etc.

Upgrading a hard disk will ordinarily lose the recovery partition. These ISO images as they will automatically create a new one when you install them on a new blank hard disk.

Most laptops can use up to a 2TB disk and machines with UEFI can use larger ones. Depending on the machine, some can use 9.5mm hard disks and some can only fit 7mm hard disks so care is need to be sure the replacement hard disk or SSD is the right size.

You will need a CD-KEY for Windows 7 Professional to be able to use these disks.
