Quake Live was released August 6, 2010 by idSoftware. The game was developed by idSoftware. Quake Live is a first person action adventure.

The gameplay of Quake Live consists of players attempting to frag more of their opponents than any other player or team in a given match. This is achieved by navigating a 3D environment and shooting other players with a variety of weapons, while collecting health, armor, weapons, ammo and various power-ups. As players get more advanced, they use other tricks and techniques such as rocket and strafe jumping.

For those who have played Quake 3 Arena, this game features the old free for all frag fights which make the game so very popular. Quake Live has much more.

The game uses the older idTech 3 engine to make this game easier on the GPU. The game is also censored to remove blood and gore that were found in Quake III Arena and is the only game in the series that was developed by id Software internally to be rated T by the ESRB.

The game is aimed at the subscription market however the free to play core is very popular and there are lots of game modes. Running and jumping are important to avoid being killed and at the same time care is needed to aim the weapon.

The game has skill modes that make it harder to play over time. Experienced players may even find this harder than expected. The game is calibrated for tournaments which is part of the classic game play.

The number keys are bound just like the classic Q3 Arena so players need to be quick to change weapons as they are acquired. Quake Live is a twitch shooter so does take a lot of work to practice.

Quad damage is the wild card for new players who can grab a few shots and fluke a kill or 2 to make their score look at least a bit better. The old Q3 Arena used that to good advantage.
