Medal of Honor was released October 12, 2010 by EA. The game was developed by Danger Close and Digital Illusion CE. Medal of Honor is a first person shooter.
This is the latest installment in the Medal of Honor franchise. It is the first game in the Medal of Honor franchise to receive an M rating from the ESRB.
Medal of Honor has four main characters: Rabbit, Specialist Dante Adams, Duce and Captain Brad “Hawk” Hawkins.
The single player campaign takes place in Afghanistan, in 2002. For half of the game, players assume the role of a DEVGRU operator. For the remainder, the player alternates between the roles of a Delta Force sniper, as well as a U.S. Army Ranger of the 75th Ranger Regiment, and an AH-64 Apache gunner.
Operating directly under the National Command Authority, a relatively unknown entity of handpicked warriors are selected when it is crucial that a mission not fail. These are the Tier 1 Operators. There are over 2 million active soldiers.
Of those, approximately 50 thousand fall under the direct control of the Special Operations Command. The Tier 1 Operator functions on a level above and beyond even the most highly trained Special Operations Forces. Their exact numbers, while classified, hover in the low hundreds.
They are living, breathing, precision instruments of war, experts in the application of controlled violence. The new Medal of Honor game is inspired by and developed with actual Tier 1 Operators from this elite community. Players step into the boots of these warriors and apply their unique skill sets to fight a new enemy in the most unforgiving and hostile conditions of present day Afghanistan.
Unlike some other titles, Medal of Honor does get Afghanistan right. The buildings, the courtyards and the walls everywhere are very close to the actual experience soldiers coming back recognized immediately.
The single player campaign is very short and took less than 4 hours to complete on the hardest settings. The action is very intense as villages are full of hostiles making this game a very good action shooter. The villages make an excellent backdrop for combat.
Players can pick up weapons while fighting and ammo can be picked up by walking over the fallen. The game is excellent for those who take the time to carefully look for the enemy before moving in to take them out. This is the gameplay that Medal of Honor provides that many other shooters do not even come close to.
Medal of Honor uses either disk checks or internet authorization. This game requires a persistent internet connection to play as it requires activation to launch.
The PC version of the game is shipped on a single DVD-DL disk. The case is a standard video case that is now very popular with publishers and purchasers alike.
Multiplayer is class based, with three classes available Rifleman, Special Ops, and Sniper. This game really comes into its own as a co-op shooter.
There was a lot of controversy as players could take on the role of the Taliban. The developers responded by stating the reality of the game necessitated it. “Most of us having been doing this since we were 7 so if someone’s the cop, someone’s gotta be the robber, someone’s gotta be the pirate and someone’s gotta be the alien”, Amanda Taggart, senior PR manager for EA, told AOL News. “In Medal of Honor multiplayer, someone’s gotta be the Taliban”.
Testing the game 9/27//2012 found over 150 players available. The pool of players generally are very skilled and no evidence of cheating was noted.
EA allows an unlimited number of activations but only 5 different machines can play the game at any one time in a 60 day period. EA has a license revocation tool that can remove the game from the authorization server.
