GT 630 PLAYABLE GAMES

The NVIDIA GT 630 has 96 Fermi cores or 384 Kepler cores depending on the GPU core used. There are several versions of the GT 630.

The Asus GT 630 we are using has 2048MB GDDR3 which affords lots of texture cache and the card is slightly overclocked vs the reference card. It delivers about 311 GFLOPS of performance.

Best bet for the GT 630 is a machine with at least 4GB or more memory with 64-bit Windows to be able to use all of the VRAM on the card. 32-bit Windows cannot use more than 512MB video cards.

We have a Full HD LCD and using a DIsplayPort to HDMI cable, we are able to test machines at up to 1920×1080 easily. The VESA standard for 800×600, 1024×768, 1280×720, 1366×768 and other resolutions are all supported so using a larger panel with laptop as a pedestal is how we test games.

Many other older games will likely work ok. This list is far from exhaustive. Some games may be playable at higher resolutions. We use a 1920×1080 panel and while we test performance at 1024×768 this is simply for frame rate tests. Steam has a framerate option in settings which can help adjust a system for better performance.

The original Xbox was designed for 640×480 which gives gamers a baseline for performance requirements.  See the category for Xbox games. The Xbox GPU is 5.8 GFLOPS and the GT 630 is about 311 GFLOPS. The brute force of Fermi is strong enough to play many games at 1920×1080.

We also have a vast library of games  that existed before the original Xbox was released. These games are largely DX5 to DX8 and they will work reasonably well at 640×480, 800×600 and 1024×768 and more. DX9 was available to Windows 98 SE and Windows 2000 users.

Not many game engines natively support every screen size which is why the VESA standard was established so that displays could be backwards compatible with existing games etc.
