The CGNM-2250 works well with the 80 MHz channels selected. The wider 80 MHz channels in the 5 GHz band allow for higher speeds when the hardware has support for it.

Testing it with modern mobile phones showed excellent performance at ac960 speeds. Photographs are uploaded in a second or two.

Laptops with the RTL8821AE connected at ac433 which is the speed used by the RealTek hardware. Laptops with the Intel 9260 achieved ac960 speeds. Real throughput with 2T2R hardware was disappointingly slow with transfer speeds of 3-4 MB/s. Wired connections were substantially faster with transfer speeds of 100 MB/s.

The IP Passthrough is available for those who want to use a different WiFi setup. The HiTron CGNM-2250 can then also be plugged into an existing LAN infrastructure. The IP passthrough delegates NAT to another device,.

SHAW.CA

Shaw Cable uses this modem for Internet services up to 100 megabit download. Shaw disables the USB so sharing a large capacity USB stick is not possible. By default Shaw also disables the WPS so if a user desires to use it, it must be enable for both 2.4 Ghz and 5 GHz channels. It is not known if the CGNM-2250 or Shaw is limiting the number or channels at 5 GHz for users.
