Payday 2 was released on August 12, 2013 by 505 Games. The game was developed by OVERKILL (Starbreeze). Payday 2 is a first person shooter.

Starbreeze is now publishing the game as well as developing additional content. Payday VR is a free DLC for those who have the HTC Vive or Oculus Rift VR systems.

The game  is an action-packed, four-player co-op shooter that once again lets gamers don the masks of the original Payday crew – Dallas, Hoxton, Wolf and Chains – as they descend on Washington DC for an epic crime spree.

Payday takes some elements from Grand Theft Auto like robbing banks etc to earn money. The AI is randomized so the gameplay is not static and boring. Each job allows for multiple approaches, such as slow and stealthy ambushes, to running in guns blazing. Hit the target any way you want, and watch as the heist unfolds accordingly.

The level selection menu is styled as a fictional website,, where missions pop up periodically as contracts in a map of Washington D.C.

The player can pick up an open contract, join a contract another player has started, or buy a contract with in-game money in an offshore bank account. There are seven difficulty levels, with increased money and experience payouts for higher difficulty levels. Independent of difficulty was the “pro job” condition.

Pro jobs rack up experience faster but obviously they are more difficult. One idea, sneak in, get caught, restart the game and try again. Many jobs can be completed with stealth. Players who take too much damage end up in jail, where another player can swap a hostage to free them. The game ends when all the players are in custody.

The game’s co-op mode is the primary way to play. Players work together on jobs and share in the proceeds.

Payday 2 Ultimate Edition has all the DLC bundled.
