Parking the HX1000i into any ATX chassis will immediately improve efficiency and allow for dual graphics cards with ease. The 80 PLUS platinum rating means this PSU can reach 90% peak efficiency.
The HX1000i comes with a rich collection of ribbon cables. Corsair sells spare cables as needed at low cost. The fully modular design makes it simple to install only the cables needed. There are two cables for EPS12V as seen on some high-end motherboards.
The HX1000i is 20mm longer than most lower rated units but the size is driven by the need for more thermal management components.

Load testing the HX1000i showed it was quite capable of the claimed power rating. Even at 1035W the HX1000i continued to function however the temperature was beginning to rise close to 40°C. The heat suggests that pushing the HX1000i this hard will need some serious air conditioning.

The HX1000i is loaded with safety features. The 5V standby is rated at 3A which is better than most competitors. All of the cables are 18 gauge AWG except the floppy adapter. The pair of EPS12V cables is appreciated given motherboard trends of late but one cable is shorter than the other (650mm vs 795mm). The HX1000i has six connectors for peripheral cables for every possible situation.
Lots of SATA cabling to handle anything and there is a Molex strand for legacy needs. The PCIe pigtail cables can handle 300W which can handle even the R9 Fury fine. Running a pair of GTX 690 cards was easily handled.
The NTC thermistor has been standard for years. The six Y caps, pair of X caps, pair of CM chokes and a MOV make up the transient filters. The MOV might fail with a lightning strike. Installing a lightning arrestor is a wise investment for any home as thunderstorms can be very damaging.
The half bridge rectifier is make from a pair of Lite-On GBJ25L06 (25A each). There are three Infineon IPP50R140CP. There is the Infineon ICE2HS01G switching controller that feeds a pair of Toshiba TK31A60W. A pair of Rubycon 470µF 400V, 105°C buffer the primary.
The 12V is supplied by six Infineon BSC014N04LS MOSFETs. The 5V and 3.3V DC-DC Converters: six M3004D FETS PWM Controller: APW7159. Chemi-Con electrolytic caps are typical. Monitoring is given by the Weltrend WT7502 and a pair of Weltrend WT7518. 5V standby is provided with a PFR20V45CT rectifier. Ripple was far below the ATX standard at about 10-12 mV. Even running GTX 690 SLI the ripple was under 30 mV which is excellent. Regulation was < 1% for 12V, 5V and 3.3V which is astounding for this price point.
The silicone material is using as a dampener to cut down on vibration from the magnetic fields in the PSU.
There are 6 connectors for EPS12V and PCIe available to handle most situations. There are 6 peripheral connectors which are available for disks and fans etc. The LED is green unless it is connected to USB and the Corsair software is installed which will make the LED cycle from red to green with data communications. The HX1000i is well provisioned for dual video cards and a machine full of fans.
The HX1000i is an excellent unit that achieves an astounding 80 PLUS platinum using standard components to keep the price reasonable. The MSRP is a very reasonable $229.
