Mad Max was released August 31, 2015 by Warner Brothers. The game was developed by Avalanche Studios. Mad Max is an open world third person action game with vehicular combat.

Clearly this game tries to take its cues from the classic Mad Max films from the 1970s.

In the Wasteland it’s every man for himself. Playing as reluctant warrior, Mad Max, you must embark on a treacherous journey to build the ultimate war vehicle, and leave the madness behind.

Alone in the Wasteland with stolen gas for your Interceptor, it’s up to you to fend for yourself and fight off the deadly marauders who will do anything to obtain precious scrap and resources

Almost out of gas, but not completely out of luck, your Interceptor is your only hope for survival as Scrotus’ gang of marauders close in. Do you fight or flee? The decision could mean the difference between life and death.

If you have played Borderlands or Rage, that game has some vehicular combat that Mad Max manages kick up a notch. Melee action is not as strong as Batman: Arkham Knight but its reasonably well calibrated.

Game progression is gained by getting Griffa tokens from completing various challenges. They can be used to increase very specific specializations such as Longevity, Intuition, Munitions and even how long a tank of fuel will last. Especially useful was the ability Volition, which increases how much scrap I receive from looting.

Players can collect collectibles called history relics throughout the game. They are mainly photos and notes of the wasteland created before the apocalypse, allowing players to get a better glimpse of the world.

The story unfolds with Scrotus and his gang who are out for blood and your Interceptor. After an attack on your life, it’s up to you to defend your only means of escape. But outnumbered and outgunned, your chances don’t look promising.

The landscape of the game is made up of canyons, caves, deserts and abandoned wastelands. Everywhere has to be carefully assessed as the level of threat is not easily determined.

The game has strong role playing attributes which the player will use. The game’s world is broken up into several regions, with each region having its own unique backstory and landscape. Each area has a boss that can be defeated. Much of the game consists of driving to various scavenge points, and hunting for all the Scraps, and defeating all the enemies at each location.

Gasoline is in very short supply and a single jerrycan is all that can be carried.

The game makes the survival aspect of gaming much stronger with the Australian outback as a good backdrop.

The developer took longer with the game as the Xbox 360 and PS3 were too underpowered for the game. This game is much more demanding. The PC version is the one being reviewed.
