341.81 was released on March 16, 2016 for legacy cards from the GeForce 8 series and above for Windows 10.

This driver is for GeForce 8 series through the GTX 200 series.

Starting with 343 NVIDIA has indicated that more older cards will be dropped from receiving updates. This includes all of the shader 4 cards.

NVIDIA will still be providing updates for the 340 branch (340.xx) until 1st April 2016. But future driver enhancements and optimizations will be not be included.

Realistically old cards have very little capacity for gaming when compared to a modern $129 card. Our EVGA GTX 660 Ti much more powerful than even our old GTX 260 SLI. This means the scope of games is vastly improved.

The cost of extreme setups like the GTX 260 SLI means many many still be using them. While shader 4 the scope of games that are playable is actually not all that bad.

Many games released in 2016 will work with XP and Vista.

We constantly investigate problems simply as we use NVIDIA video cards and we desire to be more defensive following the demise of our 8600 GT which did not last long at all.

The withdrawn 196.75 driver had a bad fan speed profile that left it at 30% regardless of actual temperature. That driver was the cause of the destruction of our old machine. First the 8600 GT was destroyed and the Asus M2NBP-VM CSM failed short afterwards.

Teapo capacitors were common with machines made in China before they finally fixed the problems. The old blue ones are the problem, the new red ones seem to be fine.
