Seagate is presently testing some new 12TB desktop SATA hard disks. We see this disk being very handy for backups of games, iTunes and other media collections. Seagate CEO Stephen Luczo says that initial feedback has been very positive.

Seagate is also working to get a 14TB disk into testing soon.

Looking into 2018 Seagate is working to bump capacity to 16TB. Squeezing more and more into a desktop sized hard disk has been incremental over the last 5 years.

Backblaze will likely snap up the early production so prices may be higher early on before the resume their historical price rot.  Early pricing is likely to be $500 or more.

We expect to see the new capacity disks near the holiday season in 2017 and beyond.
