Ocullus Rift posted some comments recently regarding their hardware. They reported that using 3 sensors in a larger area can become too taxing for most USB 3.0 ports.
Intel’s Z370 motherboards largely have only have USB 3.0 on the rear panel. This is largely due to full backwards compatibility. There are still some USB 2.0 headers for brackets or front panel use.
The best bet to add more bandwidth is to purchase some additional USB 3.0 PCI Express cards which can spread the load better. Some PCI Express cards have 2 controller chips but we have not tested that type for performance.
By adding one or 2 PCI Express USB 3.0 cards, the overall load for sensors can be spread around. This will eliminate problems with scaling to room sized gaming.
Adding more load to the PCI Express will add to the CPU load so its important to be sure there is adequate overall cooling.
