Battlestar Galactica Deadlock was released on August 31, 2017 by Slitherine. The game was developed by Black Lab Games. Battlestar Galactica Deadlock is a single player turn based strategy game.

This game is a fairly good simulation of the TV series Battlestar Galactica space battles. Gameplay borrows heavily from Star Hammer: The Vanguard Prophecy. Battlestar Galactica Deadlock is better in so many ways.

In Battlestar Galactica Deadlock, the simultaneous turn-based system will test your tactical prowess: the only way to prevail is to outsmart your opponent, as you build up intimate knowledge of how to configure ships and weapon systems all under your command. Be clever, decisive and wipe those toasters out!

Deadlock’s space battles are fun, and the story is interesting prequel to BattleStar Galactica (2004), but some of the grand strategy aspects are clumsy and counter intuitive. Cylon proliferation follows an algorithm that is not communicated to the player. Slowing proliferation of Cylon forces has little to do with the number of fleets you are able destroy. Instead, the Cylon fleets apparently spawn at a point value that is generated in proportion to your highest level officer. The player’s economy seems to advance better by garrisoning colonies than by advancing quickly through plot points–but if you use the suggested strategy of garrisoning with a single Manticore, keep enough Thulium saved at the end of your turns to fund emergency jumps.

Progress in the campaign is hard to gauge. Players need to focus more on the battles. The difficulty also does not scale well. The game has 6 directions to move as it is set in space. This takes some getting used to from the more typical ground based games.

Outside of combat, everything else is manageable. So it’s turn based, you can research ships and weapons, you can build ships and weapons, and you move your forces around a map. Probably the best strategy is to hack and make a run for it.
