Prismata was released on March 8, 2018 by Lunarch Studios who also developed the game. Prismata is hybrid strategy simulation board game.

The game is the work of some part time MIT students in 2010  who built a prototype and expanded it from there. The game has been updated several times since it was released.

Episodes 2 through 5 of the single-player story campaign will be released one at a time, at roughly 1-month intervals, beginning with Episode 2 in April.

Prismata is the first title in a genuinely new genre of strategy game. Prismata’s original design was extremely experimental, and it took years of refining, testing, and iterating to bring that design to a high level of balance and polish.

Gameplay merges the mechanics of a real-time strategy game with turn based and card game action. The game is designed for player vs player. Some comparisons to Starcraft and Hearthstone and maybe even chess. The game is very complex, with a fairly steep learning curve with an incredibly high skill ceiling.

The game is designed as a 2 player perfect information game.  The game begins with the reveal of a “random set” of 5 or more units, randomly chosen from a list of about 100 units.

Players start with 6 or 7 Drones that harvest gold and the second player starts with 1 extra drone to compensate. Gold then buys resources.

At each turn, players may purchase units from the random set and the “base set”, a set of 11 units available every game. Units may attack, block, produce gold or other resources, or have special abilities. The goal of the game is to destroy all of your opponents units by producing attack and using abilities.
