Splitgate is a free-to-play, fast-paced multiplayer shooter that features player-controlled portals. This sci-fi shooter takes the FPS genre to a new dimension with its portal mechanics, delivering high-flying, multi-dimensional combat. Evoking memories of the most revered shooters of the past two decades, Splitgate embraces the classic and familiar feel of close-quarters combat while adding a unique twist. IGN describes Splitgate as “Halo meets Portal” and Hardcore Games agrees completely.

Cross-play functionality lets you play with or against your friends across multiple consoles and PCs. Standard FPS controls and intuitive portal mechanics mean beginners are up and running right off the bat, and with competitive and casual modes, you can party up with friends of any skill level. You can even create a custom lobby with modifiers to play any way you like. We highly recommend Big-Head Mode with low gravity and unlimited ammo!

It’s as fast paced as your typical arcade fps, but the higher you go on the skill curve the more of your actual movement gets replaced with dipping in and out of portals.  It’s possible to sprint and fly around pretty fast, you quickly learn any movement outside of portaling is suboptimal. this means the “movement” in the game turns into peeking angles rapidly by shooting portals: in other words as the skill gets higher you and your targets move less and less and the angles themselves move via portal placement.

Splitgate is a great arena shooter. It’s core mechanics are so solid and good feeling. Fans of Halo: Reach would be immediately familiar with the game. Tight controls, smooth sprint, and powerful feeling guns. The jetpack is fun to use and very reminiscent of Tribes: Ascend or Titanfall. Halo 3 also uses jetpack fight the brutes more effectively with. Splitgate is a good arena shooter and, if not for the portals, would be a fantastic free to play Halo clone. If you don’t want to install 150 GB of Halo MCC just to rage at aim assist & vehicle spam, install this instead; its 15 GB.

Trying the Carbon Black controller with the game required changing the in-game settings to the controller. Most games are more transparent when a controller is activated and use it if the buttons or gimbals are active. That is because the game event handler is device agnostic.
