Steambirds Alliance was developed and released on August 22, 2019 by SpryFox LLC. Steambirds Alliance is a massively-cooperative bullet-hell shooter.
Steambirds Alliance is brought to you by Spry Fox, co-developer of Realm of the Mad God, the first-ever MMO shmup.
The game is being distributed as a free to play title. Players need to sign up with the developer’s server which handles achievements and leaderboards.
The gameplay and UI is designed to put you at a disadvantage if you don’t buy in. That’s not even covering how the in-game economy interacts with real money transactions. So much for free to play. $1 USD per extra inventory slot, $7.5 for an extra hanger slot, $5 for another skill loadout save slot.
Gameplay is pretty standard for an isometric. The artwork is excellent which makes the game all the more enjoyable on a UHD panel.
The game can be played with keyboard/mouse and it has full controller support. The Xbox 360 controller seems to still enjoy the most compatibility with games to this day. The game works with the Xbox 360 controller fine.
Steambirds Alliance is a massively-cooperative, permadeath bullet-hell shooter! Fly with dozens of your feathered friends in an open world full of cruel cat bosses and endless waves of deadly bullets. Experience hundreds of unique enemies, secret missions, and 14 unique aircraft to unlock and master. Team up with your fellow birds to end the reign of Meowza, the evil cat overlord.
Steambirds Alliance uses is a permadeath system and when your plane is destroyed it’s gone forever. Your pilot ejects each time your plane is destroyed, and depending upon how much XP you earned while flying that plane, your pilot may level up. When pilots level up they always earn Pilot Skill Points and sometimes they also unlock new Pilot Skills. These skills make you significantly stronger, either by unlocking totally new abilities and/or making your planes more powerful. So losing a plane that you’ve been flying for a long time can often be a serious blessing in disguise!
This game has been withdrawn by the developers. After facing some serious criticism the disgraced developer has left Steam completely. The abusing pricing for the game made it a pay to play which is a bad practice the lead to a heavy amount of negative reviews.
