Flotsam was releases on September 26, 2019 by Kongregate. The game was developed by Pajama Llama Games. Flotsam is floating garbage town survival game.
This game has been overhauled completely over the from the early days and now the game is much more balanced and playable. The game has also been reset several times as new features are added.
Flotsam is a survival town-builder, set in a flooded world. You manage a floating village community as it moves around the ocean. You recycle garbage and scrap to construct buildings and collect fish and drinkable water to keep your villagers alive. On your journey you will encounter dangerous sea animals, visitors with unknown intentions and mysterious ruins and wreckages.
Scavenge what precious garbage you can from the ocean’s surface and grow your city while doing your best to survive in this colorful post-apocalyptic world. The game is isometric but the camera can be rotated so that the player can perform tasks more easily.
Players manage your drifters as they try to survive in a harsh ocean world, where everything is trying to eat you or sink your town to the depths of the sea! You’ll need fresh water, seafood, and scrap to make sure your drifters can make the best of this wet situation. Luckily the flooded environment offers all kinds of relics from the old world to recycle.
Your drifters can transform garbage, driftwood, and flotsam into boats and buildings. These allow them to collect rainwater, hunt for various creatures, and reel up scrap from the ocean floor. There is a sail available that allows the player to move to a new area in the maps.
Probably the hardest thing in the game is securing fresh water. Some maps also do not have any fish to catach so the player’s workers starve. The game has some good potential but it needs to be fixed up for better replay etc.
To get more water you need to gather driftwood and build a drying rack. This will add dry wood to the inventory. Then a desalinator will be available to build. The workshop can make firewood for the desalinator. If a player runs out of resources the game will reset back to try again.
