When using wired headphones the FM radio can be used for entertainment however most radio stations have long disappeared as advertising revenue has declined due to Apple not supporting FM even though the hardware is present. iHeart radio is free and is available for Android and iOS which can provide all manor of radio stations world wide.

There is no pin slot for SIM cards but the operating system recognizes a pair of SIM slots and it also recognizes a SD card slot. Android is not as good with dealing with varying hardware configurations. Cellular tablets are usually double the cost of WiFi models.

Testing the WiFi showed about 33.8 Mbps download speeds and 7.07 Mbps upload speeds which is better than expected. Usually low cost Android hardware is slower but the new models seems to have improved the network as well as CPU cores and system storage. The faster 802.11ac can make updates quicker when in for a coffee,

The tablet does not work with higher power USB-C chargers. A USB-A to USB-C cable was found that does work to charge the tablet resurrecting it from DOA. This suggests the system board is not properly designed for USB-C charging. USB-C charging logic is not expensive but Mediatek may not have had that available in their design portfolio. Charging from dead seems to take at least 4-5 hours suggesting the built-in charger is designed for 500mA USB power.

The Mediatek shows many folders when connected to a Windows PC. The internal storage is presented as a USB device which means easy access to any images taken and its easy to access downloads as well. The music folder makes it easy to copy music from existing libraries easily. Bluetooth headphones can allow the tablet to remain in the backpack where it is safe from the rain etc.

The USB settings have several options:

  • USB storage
  • Media device (MTP)
  • Camera (PTP)
  • Charge Only
  • CD-ROM emulator
