Halo: CE has reached a milestone in gaming that few have achieved. It has now been 19 years since it was released with the original Xbox gaming console.
More than five million copies of Halo: Combat Evolved had been sold worldwide by November 2005. The Halo series have sold over 65 million copies worldwide, with the games alone grossing almost $3.4 billion. Halo has since become one of the highest-grossing media franchises of all time and one of the highest grossing video game franchises.
A high-definition remake, Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary, was released for Xbox 360 on the 10th anniversary of the original game’s launch.
The anniversary was re-released for Xbox One as part of Halo: The Master Chief Collection in 2014, and eventually was released on Steam and the Windows store. Halo: The Master Chief Collection peaked at 93,000 active players placing in the top 3 on Steam’s stats.
Halo: Combat Evolved has undoubtedly been a real waypoint in gaming. It really set bar high during the golden age of first person shooters as one of the finest games ever.
Halo: The Master Chief Collection now represents a great package of gaming. All of the Halo series up to Halo 4 are included. Halo 4 will be released in a few days along with a bunch of fixes for the rest of the games. There is still a list of problems to fix which will be addressed eventually.
Some gamers are hopeful that Halo 5 will come to the Steam. At present only Halo: Infinite is posted for the wishlist. Halo 5 would at least maintain the story of the Master Chief leading into Halo: Infinite.
Unfortunately Halo: Infinite had to be pushed back well into 2021 as it was not yet finished. Halo: Infinite is designed for ingoing development as periodic DLC. This model is taken from the way Halo: MCC was delivered to the Steam community when it launched about a year ago.
