TSMC has started to build their new factory in Southern Taiwan Science Park near Tainan. This will be fab 18 which will make 300mm wafers and its expected to be able make over 100,000 wafers per month once the line is in full swing. TSMC has been reported to have spent almost $20 billion on the new factory.
TSMC has expanded substantially to cope with growing demand for semiconductors. Semiconductors are found in a growing range of consumer products. TSMC’s stock bounces around with lows in Q1 and highs in Q3, suggesting the company is very cyclic in nature. The outlook for organic growth in semiconductors is likely to grow substantially over the net 30-40 years.
