Some coin miners are reporting that RTX 3080 and RTX 3090 VRAM temperatures are running at 110°C. The problem is that the TJ max is 100°C.

Ethereum mining has reported that 110°C in the GDDR6X is common. Minging is very stressful for VRAM and thermal throttling seems to not be active at all.

Any card with VRAM that hot should immediately re grease their cards. MX-4 works fine on 300W cards so a lack of thermal pads is not a problem.

The typical gaming temperature is closer to 60 °C so it suggests that some miners are already experiencing thermal damage to their cards.

The RTX 3080 with Metro Exodus at 3840×2160 on max settings using DLSS hits a peak temperature of 94°C. Adding RTX it hits a peak temperature of 100°C. At no time did the game thermal throttle.

Shadow of the Tomb Raider with DLSS enable barely gets the card above 85 °C with the benchmark. Furmark also settles in at around 85 °C at 3840×2160.

The likelihood of VRAM failure is very high so the resale value is really poor given the overheating and faulty thermal throttle.
