At last count the US has reached 44.1 million 5G cellular subscribers. Over in China they have reached 500 million. China is installing over 190,000 5G cell towers and infrastructure. Globally there is expecting some 619 million subscribers. By the end of 2022 its expected that more than 1 billion 5G subscribers will be reached.

Canada is 18th in LTE market penetration with 88.1%. 5G market penetration is 58%. In Canada 5G rollout has been fairly successful. The major metropolitan areas are now complete so slowly the smaller centers are now being overhauled. The advances in fiber networking has made mobile services a very powerful option.

There are a lot of LTE phones out there as only the iPhone 12 supports 5G. The iPhone 12 has a reputation of poor battery life suggesting that a future model may be better. The iPhone 11 in the studio is expected to be in service for at least 3-4 years before the battery becomes useless.

5G systems are backwards compatible with LTE and even 3G handsets. This is due to the high cost of phones in the market and few can afford an iPhone as a cash sale. Even in North America, most pay for their phone with their cell bills.

5G is at its best in dense urban areas. In modern cities with hundreds or even thousands of tall buildings. In Manhattan there are over 25,000 persons per squire mile. Tokyo is not quite as densely populated but the also have a concrete jungle with thousands of buildings. São Paulo is 20,733.5 persons per squire mile.

Buenos Aires has over 15 million people and many cities are even larger. São Paulo is also a huge densely populated state in Brazil. Large metropolitan areas with 5G can handle even a large number of text messages and calls. At present 3G, LTE and 5G are now all available.

Cairo is a large metropolitan area and they have a large metro subway system. Providing cellular services makes it possible for commuters to work while they ride. At present Erickson is testing their system with an option to expand they network over time.

5G will eventually reach the entire world as telecommunications advance. Most likely 80% market penetration will be reached by 2030. The cell tower costs are negligible compared to the cost of 1 billion new phones.
