REGULATORS SUMMONS TEN CENT AND NETEASE

Ten Cent is well know in the gaming industry. Netease is not as well known. Chinese regulators have called both companies to adress concerns that gaming is having a negative effect on people. Both companies saw their stock fall hard on the news.

Regulators also said that gaming companies should ban illegal content and change game designs that get users addicted. What defines illegal content is something that needs clarification. Pornography is illegal in China.

The regulators reminded gaming companies they need to limit game time for children under 18 years of age. Under rules announced last month, kids are not allowed to play online games for more than 3 hours per week — and only during specific times and days. The Chinese government has long been concerned about the impact of gaming on the physical and mental health of children.

Regulators are concerned that too many will spend time gaming instead of spending more time learning in school.
