Faruk Fatih Özer

Faruk Fatih Özer, Thodex’s founder, has disappeared , taking $108 million of investors’ funds with him.

According to the state-run Anadolu Agency, Turkish authorities have now issued an international warrant seeking Özer’s arrest. The red notice is not widely honored around the world. Each nation has its own policies regarding international warrants.

Investigating the matter shows no arrest has been made suggesting somebody is protecting him from arrest. Speculation as to his true whereabouts are rampant and it has been a vey long time since he was last seen in Albania. By now, Özer could be anywhere.

Police have detained 62 people in eight cities including Istanbul, the state-run news agency said. An Anadolu Agency (AA) report said prosecutors issued detention warrants for 16 more people linked to the trading platform. Police raided the company’s headquarters on the Asian side of Istanbul and seized computers and digital materials.

A lawyer who filed a criminal complaint against Özer said Thodex had 400,000 users, of which 390,000 were active. According to Anadolu Agency, Turkish authorities have now issued an international warrant seeking Özer’s arrest.

Turkey is now taking many steps against bitcoin and other assets. The banking problems have lead to high inflation due to excessive spending. This backdrop motivated many to adopt bitcoin to hedge from inflation. Turkey wants to tax bitcoin.

Given the unregulated nature of the whole digital coin sector its obvious that the rash of thefts and losses are a clear indication of the folly of Bitcoin et al. Greed is a sin and that comes as no surprise to see somebody take the money and run.

Albanian police have detained a few people alleging that the assisted Özer to flee from arrest. So far nobody is talking suggesting that police will have to work hard to get leads.

Most likely Faruk Fatih Özer is located somewhere that has no extradition treaty with Turkey. There have been a few cases of Mossad, MI6, CIA, KGB etc assassinations but this is unlikely with Turkey. The Khashoggi assassination reached the top of the Saudi kingdom. A lot of media speculation with no material facts.
