PAGE RANK NOVEMBER 2021

Record traffic suggests the site is finally recovering. The bot traffic tool shows heavy bot traffic has been dominating the site traffic. Overall, human traffic is running at around 100,000-250,000 or so pageviews per month at present. Daily traffic of 1,500 pageviews are now more and more common. Referral traffic from several new sources has been adding to the pageviews.

Bing has indexed the site far better than Google and traffic from Bing has been improving rapidly. Not sure what the problem is with Google as their search crawler is not doing much at all. Usually after posting news Bing is right on it while Google is rather sluggish. Both Bing and Google have sent more traffic than last time around but finding a niche that works today is hard to find.

Looking at users most are hit and run but a growing number are taking a look at the posts more closely. Most land on some post or other but many jump to home page to see the new content. Most spend very little time on a post, which is why I keep the short for the most part. The attention span seems to be rather short.

Content popularity also influences traffic substantially. Top pages lately include:

The old Crysis review has a fix for modern Windows and it is now one of the most popular posts on the site. Some old smash hits include:

Bing has overtaken direct traffic. Some days Bing delivers hundreds of page views.

The chart has shown some month over month improvement but the dilutives effect of trademark infringers will be dealt with accordingly.

site traffic by nation

Site traffic comes from the planet. Some days it can be very busy when a news item gets picked up by Bing or Google. Traffic can come in bursts suggesting some social comments or non-English forums I do not use. Traffic patterns also vary widely by the time of day. This graphic was make at 12:00 GMT-8. This screenshot is typical for traffic, hardly gets above 15 per Google’s perspective, instead traffic is more random pages from search. Direct traffic tends to be the home page.

According to one report in Google Analytics, the site runs maybe 1000-2000 daily users who visit on a 28-day rotation. This is more or less consistent with my own logs for users.

Been getting a lot of traffic from the Black Sea area. I know that the waterway has millions of people there and that fishing is the main part of the economy. Many from northern areas are known to also vacation there.

GOOGLE & BING

Ad blocking has really badly trashed the advertising industry. There are still ads on YouTube suggesting Google is still stupid. Google slashed compensation for content. The security tool here simply offers a black screen to adblock users. Google’s search is an inverted index and since about 2001 or so this is now able to be fit into main memory which makes the search faster. The index is partitioned by document IDs into many pieces called shards. Each shard is replicated onto multiple servers. In June 2010, Google rolled out a next-generation indexing and serving system called “Caffeine” which can continuously crawl and update the search index. Previously, Google updated its search index in batches using a series of MapReduce jobs. The index was separated into several layers, some of which were updated faster than the others, and the main layer wouldn’t be updated for as long as two weeks.

Bing has dumped a staggering amount of traffic concerning Windows 11. In the last few days the recent game Soulstopia Φ has attracted a lot of search queries on Google and about 7% of them are being sent to my site. By comparison, the Error Codes have not seen as much traffic.

Looking at Bings search results shows a very deep level of analysis of the site vs what the search box shows. Google by comparison is 1/2 as deep with search analysis. Bing is clearly the best choice for content analysis and the introduction of possibly more categories. Google at present is not particularly helpful.

At present the ratio of page views for Bing and Google is 6:1 at present. Bing still has some problems with search which is a complicated area for database management. WordPress searches the database fine but larger scale search is harder to do. Not sure what is up with Google but their business practices have not been popular. Google gives me traffic for Error Code category while Bing gives traffic for Windows 11 coverage. Bing and Google are both about the same for organic traffic.

SMALLER AND FOREIGN SEARCH ENGINES

Baidu has moved up the list of referrals slightly. This suggests they have used the Petal search results for their own use. Baidu probably translates posts automatically for the domestic market.

Yandex has the site on the radar albeit way down the list and DuckDuckGo has become a major search engine. It has been seen on the top 100 websites. They outrank many competitors,

SEO HUCKSTERS

SEO hucksters seem to be spending more effort on marketing instead of developing better tools. Google focuses more on content than anything but in recent years some crafty web developers have discovered how to game the system. It seems that SEO hucksters not able to identify malicious web sites like Google does.

Some offer basic free accounts but the have nothing that is really useful for WordPress.

USERS ONLINE

The uses online tool has been actively developed. A security tool also allows a blacklist which simplifies the work. It may be necessary to manage a blacklist tool as well. At the bottom of any post there is now a snapshot of the current traffic on the site. The status on the administration panel is more detailed.

There are a total of 25 users online now.

A new record high suggests the site is finally slowly reaching its full potential.

TRADEMARK DILUTION

The usual trademark infringers are dilutive and when I get around to it, the are going to face trademark litigation. On the todo is a long list of claims. Once COVID-19 is history the studio will be more powerful and able to provide better content.

RETIRE?

Retirement, when I fall over dead. Regardless that I feel Left 4 Dead, if I can still press the fire button I can still play Halo. The Spartan Master Chief returns for a new saga in Halo: Infinite.

Been updating a lot of posts on the site based on search engine results. Keywords are not necessarily very useful but URL taxonomy is more useful. There is lots of room now for a title with the theme in use and the layout.
