The US State Department has discovered some iPhones used by their agents in the nation of Uganda were contaminated with the NSO Group Pegasus spyware. This marks the first reported hacking against U.S. government workers using the NSO technology, according to the AP.
Some months ago the US Commerce Dept blacklisted the NSO Group. This barred any US technology from being used by them.
The hacked employees included some foreign service workers as well as local Ugandan workers. The full extent of the surveillance is still being investigated. Recall that Apple is also warning users if their phones are attacked they will warn them about it.
Clearly the abuses from the NSO Group are continuing and litigation is likely to be aggressive to shut them down permanently.
