A pair of updates to the .NET framework KB5007050 and KB5007051 both failed to install. Even rebooting the machine did not help. So much for Windows update servicing updates. Multiple attempts resulted in failure.
Microsoft is releasing this security advisory to provide information about a vulnerability in .NET. This advisory also provides guidance on what developers can do to update their applications to remove this vulnerability. An Information Disclosure vulnerability exists in .NET where System.DirectoryServices.Protocols.LdapConnection may send credentials in plain text on Linux.
I fired up the Visual Studio installer and updated Visual 2019 and Visual Studio 2022 now these KB updates are installed. Windows Update is not the way Visual Studio is maintained. I speculate that the updates were more focused on the runtime environment.
